Wanda Joyce Peck Obituary

Stillwater, OK - Wanda Joyce Peck was born on September 7, 1935 in Dallas, Texas and peacefully passed away on May 17, 2025 in Stillwater, OK. She was an overcomer of early hardships, a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 4:00 in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. A dinner reception and celebration will follow at the Legacy Village Ball Room at 5601 North Washington Street.

Wanda was born to an unprepared teenage mother who placed her in a Houston, Texas orphanage. She was fostered by a kind and loving aunt who discovered her existence at age three and moved her to Ft. Worth. She lived there through high school and a year at the University of Texas while gradually reuniting with her mother. Her new stepfather was a wonderful stabilizing influence and the three of them moved to Norman, Oklahoma. Wanda transferred to Central State University where she met and married Lloyd Peck. He was attending school on the Navy GI Bill and preparing for admittance into Optometry school in Memphis, Tennessee. While in Memphis, they started their family with their first two children, Mike and Angie. Then after graduation and settling in Woodward, they had their third child, David. Wanda and Lloyd loved Woodward and immediately developed life-long friendships. They became active members at First United Methodist Church where she took a leadership role in the Christian Education Department for many years. Wanda was always involved in the school activities of her children including the Jane Brooks School for theDeaf where her daughter attended. Her concern for others was displayed by her work with the Homeless Shelter Program and numerous other civic organizations. She was a member of the Woodward Hospital Board for several years and was a career participant (38 years) in the Hospital Volunteer Program. Wanda was always willing to take leadership roles and one of her highest achievements was rising to President of the Oklahoma State Hospital Volunteer Association. She was a great supporter of her husband by participating in all the auxiliary organizations involving his professional career. Wanda and Lloyd were a great team in their marriage, raising their family, and in community support. However, let it be known, that Wanda was always the one in charge!

Wanda's pride and joy were her children. She was always supportive of their families through good and bad. Whether happy or sad times, she was there for praise or encouragement, never to miss a single event or to celebrate an accomplishment. Mimi's grandchildren were her greatest pleasures and her face would light up whenever they were around. Wanda loved hosting and getting to know her children's friends, even into their adult years. She was always up for Mom's Day events and would often be the "life of the party". She was famous for her quail dinners, campfire bread breakfasts, Tiny's shrimp, and homemade spaghetti for her family and all their friends. She was an adopted Mom to a lot of our friends all throughout their lives. It was not unusual to have more than our family members at the traditional family gatherings.

Her favorite pastime was playing Bridge, where she became the highest degree Master. She also enjoyed texting with her grandchildren where she made numerous "technical" mistakes that kept the conversations humorous. She was a true Matriarch for our family and her influence will live on and her presence will be dearly missed. Mimi understood her strengths and blessings all came from her Lord and Savior whom she rests with now. Her family celebrates that she is more alive now than she has ever been.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lloyd Peck; her three children, Michael and wife Jan Peck of Enid, Angela Peck of Stillwater, and David Peck of Woodward. Her grandchildren, Leslie and husband Riley Nelson of Houston, Texas, Collins and wife Rachel Peck of Oklahoma City, Terrance Peck of Ft. Worth, Texas, Trey and wife Shannon Peck of Oklahoma City, and Devon and fiance Ruby Peck of Oklahoma City will never forget her. Mimi's great grandchildren were Gates and Howie Nelson, Barney, Eliza, Eden, and Hayes Peck.
