Freedom, Oklahoma - Tana Nixon, 77 year old longtime Freedom resident, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025 in Woodward. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Freedom Christian Church in Freedom. Private family burial will take place at the Freedom Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.


Tana Jean (Ferguson) Nixon was born on March 6, 1948 in Freedom, Oklahoma to John Eugene and Joy Lee (Dotter) Ferguson. She grew up in Freedom and graduated from Freedom High School. Tana was married to her high school sweetheart Connie Ray Nixon on September 22, 1964 in Oklahoma City at Victor Nixon's home. They were blessed with two children: Bret Roy and Kari Lea.


She worked as a Bookkeeper for Nixon Material's Redi-Mix concrete plant for many years, Ezra Blackmon's Salt Company, and Walker's Inc., a tour guide at Alabaster Caverns, hostess for The Stables, secretary for North American Brine, Coca Cola Bottling, Dr. Jan, and the Freedom Public Schools, retiring in 2020.


She enjoyed sewing clothing and crafts, alterations, cooking, canning, baking, gardening, flowers, and genealogy. Tana loved gathering family for holidays, birthdays, and any reason imaginable to see the grandkids. She always attended the kids sporting events, rodeos, and stock shows. She was devoted to caring and helping others in need. She helped with needs of children in school and the elderly living around Freedom.


Tana was a member of the Bunco Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Freedom Chamber of Commerce, Rodeo Queen Committee, Freedom Museum Board member, American Angus Association, Freedom Food Pantry, and the Bowling League.


She is survived by one son Bret Nixon and wife Jenny of Freedom; one daughter Kari Nixon of Freedom; one brother, Troy Ferguson and wife Ashley Ferguson; sister in law, Marie Davis and family; four grandchildren: Kalei and Cody Creswell, Brayden Nixon and Monica, McKenna and Preston Lowe, Myles Nixon and Cora; seven great-grandchildren: Tatum, Bristol, Brazos, and Brays Creswell, Bronx Nixon, Aiden Lowe, Layton Nixon; nieces: Chastin Tapia, Janea Twitchell, Channing Ferguson; nephew Evan Ferguson; great nieces, Kyse, Bralee, and Taylen Eagan; great nephews, Keevin Louthan and Dex Twitchell; other relatives and many friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Connie Nixon and brother Johnny Ferguson.


The family would like to take this time to say Thank You for all the texts, phone calls and visits, along with gifts and food during Tana's time of need. She would be so proud of all the support from everyone.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom Museum, American Legion Auxiliary or Freedom Cemetery with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
