Rachel Katherine Munson Obituary

Woodward, Oklahoma - On November 14, 1928, Rachel Katherine (Drake) Munson was born to Harry and Katie (Adams) Drake in Sharon, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of six children. Rachel attended Sharon Schools all twelve years. Rachel passed from this life on December 17, 2024.


Rachel was united in marriage with Eugene (Pete) Munson on December 13, 1947, in Perryton, Texas. From there they lived in the Harper County Kibby Community, Woodward and finally settled in Ft. Supply. To this union two sons were born, Steve and Stan.


After marriage, Rachel and Pete pursued their interest in farming and ranching for several years in the Kibby, Ft. Supply and Sharon communities. During this time Rachel was also employed as the secretary for the dietician at Western State Hospital in Ft. Supply.


In 1958, Rachel and Pete opened Munson Lumber Company and Farm Supply Store in Ft. Supply and operated it until 1974. Also, beginning in 1968, Rachel, Pete and two other couples constructed the Downtown Motel in Woodward. They continued to jointly own and operate the motel for two years. Later in the 1970's Rachel worked as a sales clerk at Frost's Department Store in Downtown Woodward. For many years after employment Rachel served faithfully as a volunteer at Woodward Memorial Hospital.


Rachel is survived by son Steve and wife Anitta of Guymon, son Stan and wife Rita of Woodward. Grandchildren Travis Munson and wife Melissa of Woodward, Bond (Munson) Ferguson and husband Joe of Nichols Hills, OK, Shalako (Munson) Law and husband Blake of Amarillo, Texas. Granddaughter-in-law Michelle (Merkel) Munson of Stillwater, OK. Great Grandchildren Madyson Munson, Jadyn Munson, John Munson, Emerson Law and Halle Law.


Rachel was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Katie Drake, Father and Mother-in-law Thomas and Eveyln (Tindell) Munson, Grandson Derek Munson, brothers Robert Drake and wife Edna, Ray Drake and wife Naomi, sisters Geneva (Drake) Howard and husband Jay, Cleta (Drake) Jessup and husband Ray, Coeta (Drake) Murray and husband Minard; Brother-in-law Paul (Eddie) Munson and wife Nadine: sister-in-law Thelma (Munson) Burgess and husband George: nephews Kent Bealmear, Arden Bealmear, James Howard, Dennis Burgess and niece Vonda Kay (Munson) Dorland.


Rachel was a member of the Woodward First Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church with Billings Funeral Home accepting the contributions.


Private family services and burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward, OK.
