Enid, Oklahoma - Opal Louise Gillenwater, age 102, of Enid, OK, passed away on June 23, 2025 at Baptist Village Assisted Living.
Opal was born in Woodward, OK, on September 12, 1922 to Orion and Anna Hinshaw. She attended Woodward Schools. While living in Enid, she was a member of Willow United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gillenwater; her parents and her siblings, Alberta Peach and Paul Hinshaw. She was also a preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Susan Gillenwater; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Opal is survived by her two sons, Jack Whatley and his wife, Katherine of Enid, OK and Wayne Gillenwater of Monte Vista, Colorado. Six grandchildren, Craig and Debbie Whatley, Mike and Stephanie Whatley, Mark and Angela Engel, Shelly Morris, Christina and Gilbert Sanchez, and Eldon Gillenwater. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.
Opal was a homemaker who enjoyed making crafts. She often traveled to South Texas with her husband. She loved walking barefoot and snacking on cookies. She will be missed by all those who loved her.
Services will be at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
