Larry Alvin McGeachy Sr Obituary

Carlinville, Illinois - Larry was born on September 12, 1936, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan to Alvin and Vera McGeachy. The family moved to California when he was a boy, where he grew up and went to school in Woodland Hills, Ca. Larry was introduced to Alice by friends, they eventually married on September 30, 1955. Larry and Alice celebrated 69 years of marriage together.

Larry and Alice had 6 children that survived them: Larry (Val) McGeachy Jr., Linda (Ed) Leefers, Steve (Geri) McGeachy, Ken (Robbie) McGeachy, Debbie (Tom) Brinkley and Marianne (Bruce) Dittmer.

While raising his family Larry worked for General Motors in Van Nuys, California for 34 years. He started on the assembly line and worked his way up through management. He was a lead organizer decorating the GM floats for the Rose Parade. He was admired by those that worked with him and for him.

After he retired, he moved with Alice to Buffalo Oklahoma to be closer to her family. During their time in Buffalo, Larry started a wood shop called Prairie Wood Products and was involved in the Moose Lodge in Woodward. They later moved to Gore, Oklahoma where they both worked for Marval Resort doing maintenance. They finally settled in Carlinville, Illinois for closer proximity to health care services, and lived next door to Linda who also assisted them.

Larry had many interests in the course of his life. He enjoyed restoring cars and was an avid lover of the outdoors. He passed that love of camping, hiking and fishing on to his children during family vacations to the Sierras, and volunteering in scouting with his sons. In later years he made sure to take fishing trips with sons on the Columbia River, Washington State lakes and rivers and Alaska.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gordon and his wife Carol, and brother Lynn.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren and 26-great-grandchildren, his sister Barbara Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes his funeral was delayed so he could be laid to rest with Alice upon her passing.

A memorial service for both Lary and Alice will be May 2, 2026, 11:00am at Ascent Church, Fargo, Ok. with burial following at DeBolt Cemetery in Arnett Oklahoma.
