Judith Ann Hickert (Judy) was born in rural Norton County, Kansas near Lenora on July 15, 1941. She was the daughter of Anson William Stanley and Elsie Lola (Jones) Stanley. Judy grew up in rural Kansas on a farm with her two older brothers Lowell and Ronnie. She attended grade school in Lenora and graduated from Norton High School. Judy married Urban Hickert in 1959 and she began married life on the Hickert family farm. They would go live in Hill City, Kansas for a number of years where they ran the sale barn and café. Judy always wanted a family and soon her wishes came true as the children came along. Judy and Urban were to have 8 children; 6 sons and 2 daughters. In 1976 they relocated to Moscow, Kansas where she resided for many years. In 2017 Judy made the decision to move to Woodward, Oklahoma where she was happy to be near family.
While being a wonderful mother and homemaker, as her children grew up, Judy had more time to expand her horizons. She quickly became successful as a Tupperware dealer. This suited her personality as she loved meeting new people and making new friends. Through her Tupperware business she had won many awards and earned many trips. Highlights included a fabulous trip to Hawaii and a trip to Orlando with exclusive access to Universal Studios. Many will fondly remember Judy as the "Tupperware Lady". She traveled throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle to see her customers, many of whom became close friends. Judy liked to go places for business reasons or otherwise. Going to explore new places, traveling to see relatives or friends and just going somewhere to see what might be around the next corner was always an option. Some of Judy's greatest adventures were where she had the opportunity to travel to Indonesia with a grandson, to Guatemala with her daughters and other family members and to San Francisco.
All of Judy's children and grandkids grew up playing cards, board games and Yahtzee with her. Judy loved to play games and that was a favorite way to pass time while hanging out. She always found time to join bridge clubs and find others to play cards with. She still played cards 5 times a week even as her eyesight was failing. Never doubt that she loved to win and didn't take it easy on the grandkids. If grandkids should win, they were on top of the world.
Judy enjoyed cooking and baking and shared her love and goodies with family and friends. Among her most beloved treats were frosted sugar cookies, sand plum jelly and fruit pies. She gardened throughout her life and preserved tomatoes, vegetables, and fruits as well as jelly. On all occasions everyone was sure to enjoy Grandma Judy's sugar cookies.
Setting up booths at fairs, craft shows and flea markets was one of the things Judy really loved to do. She enjoyed seeing people and visiting with everyone. Judy liked to say the wives bought Tupperware and the husbands came for the jelly.
She loved and cherished her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She joked that she sure should have a lot more grandkids and great grandkids by now. Judy smiled and laughed easily. She has an infectious laugh we will all remember fondly. People were drawn to her because she loved being around people and her warmth and happiness shown through. Judy's love, joy and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Benjamin and Gregory and other loved ones.
Memories of happy times will be cherished by her children Matthew Hickert and wife Julie of Woodward, Oklahoma, Cynthia Forehand and husband Mike of Woodward, Oklahoma, Timothy Hickert and wife Renae of Liberal, Kansas, Aaron Hickert and wife Beth of Midland, Texas, Edward Hickert and wife Natalie of Overland Park, Kansas, Valena Kneeland and husband Bryan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 12 grandchildren, Dustin Barnes and wife Krista, Christopher Barnes, Jared Barnes, Aaron Craig Hickert, Regan Hickert, Peyton Hickert, Ben Hickert, Roman Hickert, Braden Hickert, Madison Hickert, Hazel Hickert and Katie Kneeland. 3 great grandchildren, Teague Barnes, Drake Barnes and Levi Barnes.
