Funeral services for Jessie Mildrith (Freeman) Dowell, 98, will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Woodward Church of Christ. Burial will follow immediately at the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Jessie was born November 17, 1921, in Ellis County, OK, to Albert Asbury and Betty Irene (White) Freeman. She died Thursday, August 13, 2020.
Jessie graduated from Arnett High School in 1940 and married Orville Mark Dowell on September 21st of that year in Arnett. She and Mark lived and worked in various communities in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska before moving to Woodward in 1961. Jessie was employed by the Agricultural Soil Conservation Service and retired from ASCS in 1983 after which she and Mark enjoyed traveling and camping; she also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and tending to her flowers. She lived in Woodward until 2015 when she moved to the Mooreland Heritage Manor and lived there until her death. She was an active member of the Woodward Church of Christ and her greatest pleasures came from her church involvement and from being a good wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, her parents, two sisters, Lorene Dowell and Willia Mae Rissman, three brothers, Bill, Oren, and Frank Freeman, a daughter-in-law, Wilnetta Dowell, two grandsons, Steve and Mike Dowell, and four brothers-in-law, Nolan Martin, John Dowell, M.E.(Shorty) Geer, and Verne Rissman.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Linda Dowell and J.M. Dowell; three grandchildren and spouses, Jim Dowell, Steve and Carin (Dowell) Ezzell, and Scott and Sarah Dowell; six great grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Ezzell, Juliet and Cody Dowell, and Weston and Grady Dowell; one sister, Lillie Geer; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Freeman and Jean Freeman; and many other family members and friends.
