James E. Pittman (Jim) Obituary

James E. Pittman, son of W.H. and Kitty Pittman, was born on August 23, 1934 in Seiling, Oklahoma. He was welcomed to the family by one older brother, W.H. Pittman, Jr. (Bill Jr.).

Jim attended Seiling High School where he participated in football, basketball, and band. He graduated from Seiling High School in 1952 and went to college in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at Oklahoma A&M (OSU) graduating with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1956. While in college, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, serving as their treasurer. Upon graduation, he chose banking as a career following in his grandfather's and father's footsteps. In 1943 at the age of 9, he began working at the bank as a janitor and never gave up that job. In 1948 at the age of fourteen, Jim began posting his first ledgers as a bookkeeper for the bank. After college, he worked at the First National Bank for a year and half then was drafted into the Army in February 1958. He spent 18 months in Germany as a clerk typist with the 7th Engineer Brigade at Rhine Main Air Force Base near Frankfurt, Germany. While stationed in Germany, he was one of two soldiers to receive the accommodation ribbon award in the brigade for the last two years in 1960. He was honorably discharged in January 1960 in New York City. Following the army, Jim returned to work at the bank, later becoming president in 1979.

Jim married Czarina (Holland) Osmun on February 19, 1966 in Seiling, Oklahoma. She died on December 5, 1991. On September 12, 1993, he married Lynda Daugherty in Watonga, Oklahoma.

Jim has been a member of the First Christian Church in Seiling since 1946 and served as an Elder Emeritus in the church. He also served on the Hwy 60 Committee, the Seiling Race Meet, and for the Seiling Airport. He is past president of Seiling Lions Club and past Master of the Seiling Masonic Lodge #495.

Jim is survived by his wife Lynda Pittman and his children: Kirk Pittman and his wife, Charlotte; David Pittman and his wife, Jennifer; Shantel Pittman; and Rhonda Unser and her husband, Mike Unser. He has one stepdaughter, Deeann Bryant and her husband, Alan Bryant of Carnegie, Oklahoma. He has many grandchildren: Brock and wife McKenzie, Veronique, Jackson, Ava, Samuel, Chris and Emily, Elizabeth, Mark and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 30, 2024 at the First Christian Church of Seiling. Burial and military honors will follow at Brumfield Cemetery.
