Oklahoma City - Jacquelin Sue Heatley Nelson was born on December 4, 1936, in Greenville, Texas, to Walter Ray Heatley and Grace Cecilia Kirkland. She passed away on November 4, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Jackie grew up in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she remembered having the freedom to explore the town and where she struck up a friendship with the elderly neighbor next door. She graduated from Woodward High School after the family moved to Woodward, Oklahoma. She married Walter Adams in 1956 and joined him in working on the family farm in Sharon, Oklahoma. Their daughters, Dana Gail and Terri Kay, completed their family, and Jackie valued staying home in their early childhood years.
Once her daughters started school, Jackie commuted to Northwestern State University to complete her college education and earn her teaching certificate. Her drive to complete her degree as a non-traditional student may have influenced her daughters, who both returned to school for professional degrees. She taught elementary and junior high math to students at Sharon-Mutual Schools from 1971-80.
After her retirement from teaching, Jackie spent time as a landman, took undergraduate college courses and a year of law school as she looked for a new direction. She entered another phase of life when she became reacquainted with Paul Nelson at a Woodward High School reunion. They married in 1985 and participated in community life in Kingfisher and later in Cedar Valley. Jackie referred to Paul as her "best friend" and suffered a great loss with his death in 2006.
She moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to family and became part of her new community there. She loved following life changes, activities, and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her brother, Warren Heatley; and her sister, Laverne Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Dana Stone and Terri Blakley, grandchildren Erin Fong, Sean Stone, Katherine Blakley, Matthew Blakley, Sarah Blakley; great-grandchildren Hudson Fong, Parker Fong, Eva Stone, Ronan Stone, soon-to-be-born Juliet Blakley; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, November 10 at 2 p.m. at Epworth Villa Chapel, 14901 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City, OK. Condolences may be made and memories shared online at www.HahnCookFuneral.com. Memorial gifts may be made to Heifer International.
