Woodward, OK - Flora Mae "Flossie" (Holloway) Arthaud was born on April 10, 1938, to Lawrence "Bud" Lonnie and Mary Etta (Miller) Holloway during the great Cedardale blizzard of 1938. Snowed in during the storm, her parents welcomed her into the world at home, where she was delivered by her father—an unforgettable beginning to a remarkable life.
Flossie was the youngest and only daughter of four children. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in the Pearl Valley area before graduating from Moorland High School with the Class of 1956.
In 1961, she was united in marriage to Alan Lowell Arthaud, lovingly known as "Curly." The couple made their home in Mutual, Oklahoma, where they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Early in their marriage, Curly was called to serve in the United States Army for nine months, a time Flossie managed with strength and quiet resolve.
Flossie was a devoted member of the Mutual Christian Church and had a deep love for the Lord that guided her daily life. She worked outside the home until the day she and Curly adopted their daughter, Mary Angela Irvin. A favorite family story tells of receiving the call to pick up their baby girl while at the State Fair with Curly's ag boys—who proudly helped name her. The couple later adopted their son, Clint Elton Arthaud, completing their family. After both children began school, Flossie returned to work and retired in 1993.
Flossie was known for decorating her home for every season, making it warm and welcoming year-round. Though often quiet, she possessed a secretly funny sense of humor that delighted those closest to her. She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed every moment spent with them. Her faith sustained her throughout life, and while she looked forward to heaven, she often joked she was still a little mad at "Papa" for going first.
Flossie's life was one of steadfast faith, deep love for her family, and gentle kindness that will be remembered always.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan "Curly" Arthaud; her son, Clint Arthaud; her parents, Lawrence "Bud" and Mary Holloway; her parents-in-law, Millard and Velma Arthaud; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Ruth Holloway, Cecil and Helen Holloway, and Marion and MaeBeth Holloway; her siblings-in-law, Norman and Reba Arthaud, Iris and J.A. Carter, Richard and Ruth Arthaud, and Carolyn and John Burgess.
Flossie is survived by her daughter, Angela Irvin and husband Donnie; grandson, Ryan Irvin and wife Karlea; granddaughter, Kadie Pollard and husband Justin; great-grandchildren, Oliver Irvin, Bennett Irvin, Lyla Pollard, and Madilyn Pollard; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leland and Loretta Arthaud; along with other extended family members and friends.
