Elaine Jane Terry Obituary

Woodward, Oklahoma - On January 3, 1944 in Dover, NJ, two and a half hours after Eileen Hunter was born, Ralph and Gladys Hunter welcomed a surprise gift -- another girl, Elaine Jane Hunter. Twins!

Growing up in Dover, with her twin Eileen, older sister Joan and younger brother Ralph, Jr., Elaine treasured her hometown roots. After graduating from Dover High School, she began working as a secretary at Picatinny Arsenal, where she would meet the love of her life, Captain Dwight V. Terry, Jr. Dwight's southern charm and adventurous spirit captivated her, and on April 16, 1966, they began their journey together as husband and wife.

Their first great adventure took them to Taipei, Taiwan, where Dwight was stationed. While there, they celebrated the birth of their son, David Vance, on February 8, 1968. After returning to the United States in the spring of 1969, they made their home in Woodward, OK, where their family grew once more with the arrival of their daughter, Kimberly Ann, on July 16, 1969.

Elaine devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She found joy in nurturing her family, volunteering at her children's schools and church, and participating in community activities. Whether she was tending her garden, playing a round of golf, or lending her time to women's groups, Elaine lived her life with quiet purpose and steadfast love. Her greatest happiness, however, came from sharing life's moments with her family—watching her children grow, celebrating their achievements, and cherishing every dance and piano recital, football or basketball game, and all their milestones along the way.

Once David and Kim left for college, Elaine began working full time alongside her husband in the family's movie theater business - along with her trusty dog Ginger who was a big helper at the theater. Her commitment to her family never wavered, and her love only deepened when she became a grandmother. Her grandchildren, Taylor and Ryan, brought her immense pride and joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Elaine lived a life defined by love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and quiet resilience that will be carried forward by all who loved her. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly of Oklahoma City, son David and his wife Keela of Weatherford, her grandchildren Ryan and Dani Terry of Weatherford, and Taylor and Brody Haynes of Weatherford, great grandchildren, Suede McKay Haynes and Sunny Rae Haynes.

She is preceded in passing by her husband, Dwight V. Terry, Jr., her parents, Ralph and Gladys Hunter, her sister Joan Brennan, several cats and dogs including Ginger and Gordon, and Cougar and Bubba.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Karen Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
