Delores (Goad) Painter, born July 7, 1930, in Copeland, Kansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the family whose love sustained her throughout her life. The daughter of Chester and Wave (Kintner) Goad, Delores grew up on the Kansas plains as one of seven children—Ethel, Chester, Lloyd, Velma, Ann, and Robert. Her early years instilled in her a deep resilience, a strong work ethic, and a quiet determination that shaped every chapter of her life. She graduated from Copeland High School, continued her education at Hays State College, and later pursued her passion for cosmetology.
Delores had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. She poured that gift into her lifelong career in the beauty industry, becoming not only a talented stylist but also an instructor and mentor. With vision and perseverance, she founded and operated Cameo Beauty Shop—a place known as much for its sense of community as for its craft. For many, it became a welcoming space where friendships grew and stories were shared.
In 1959, Delores married Quintin "Bert" Lahr, and together they built a life grounded in devotion, hard work, and the daily rigor of farming. After Bert's passing, Delores made the courageous decision to sell the farm and her beauty shop, beginning a new chapter in Woodward, Oklahoma. Her home there became a haven of warmth, hospitality, and her signature grace.
In 2009, Delores's life expanded in a beautiful and unexpected way when she married Don Painter. At seventy-nine, she embraced with joy the role of mother to Don's three adult children—Donnetta, David, and Donnelle. She welcomed them with openness and affection, grateful for the opportunity to grow her family. Over the years, she became a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and, in 2024, a proud great-great-grandmother.
Delores was a devoted member of Woodward First Assembly of God, where she served faithfully in many roles, including Sunday School teacher, Women's Ministries volunteer, and president of the single ladies group. She and Don were deeply committed to supporting I-Youth Camp in Europe, helping hundreds of students attend over the years. They also provided scholarships for young adults pursuing ministry degrees at Assembly of God colleges, investing generously in the next generation of leaders.
Delores will be remembered for her strength, independence, and unwavering kindness. She lived a life defined by love, diligence, and quiet courage. Her legacy endures in the many lives she touched—through her work, her faith, her family, and the steady, gentle presence she offered to all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Painter; her brother, Robert Goad (Barbara); her children, Donnetta Hunter (Dan), David Painter (Jerie), and Donnelle Johnson (David); her seven grandchildren: Dana Corley (Richard), Derek Hunter (Skyler), Dylan Painter (Elaynie), Denae Ausbury (Austin), Dylane' Painter (Trevor), Zachariah Johnson (Jillian), and Jessica Jackson (Stephen); her four great-grandchildren: Hunter Corley (Fallon), Jenna Rimer (Eli), Lenora Hunter, and Judah Hunter; her great-great-granddaughter, J'Rae Corley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; her former spouse, Quintin (Bert) Lahr; her sisters Ethel Goad, Vicki McLane, and Ann Bratsch; and her brothers Chester Goad and Lloyd Goad.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Woodward Skilled Nursing Facility and ACG Hospice for the compassionate and attentive care they provided.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church or I-Youth Camp, with the funeral home serving as custodian.
