Cecil Dwaine West
Cecil D. West, 83 year old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at his home in Woodward. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Cecil Dwaine West was born November 3, 1936 near Harmon, OK to Cecil John West and Greta Della (Lucas) West. He attended elementary school in a one-room country schoolhouse near their home. He attended high school in Arnett, OK, where he excelled in baseball, graduating in 1955. In 1957 Dwaine signed a contract to play baseball for a Kansas City Athletics' farm team and traveled around Nebraska playing the game he loved. With military draft eminent, he volunteered for the US Army. The military recognized his talent and stationed him in Germany where he played baseball for the US Army. After three years of service, he returned to Woodward where he married and had a daughter Vonda Lynn. In 1969 he met and married the love of his life Ruth Marie Blackmon. Upon their marriage he adopted her children Travis and Kristi, giving them his love, his legacy, and his name. The family moved to Colorado for a short time before returning to Northwest Oklahoma to make their home in Woodward. Dwaine and Ruth were inseparable, raising their children and working side-by-side at Airgas until his retirement. They often vacationed in the mountains where Dwaine loved to fish for trout.

Following the passing of his beloved wife in 2012, Dwaine stayed active volunteering at Meals on Wheels and participating in the local horseshoe pitching league where he qualified for both state and national tournaments. He loved fishing and taking his dogs for long walks on the Cooper Ranch. When confronted with cancer, he stated that he had lived a good life, was a Christian, and was ready to join his wife in heaven.

Cecil Dwaine West was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Greta West, and his wife, Ruth West. He is survived by his children: son Travis Dwaine West and his wife Julie (Tulsa, OK); daughter Kristi Elizabeth Marie West (Harmon, OK), daughter Vonda Lynn Welsh and her husband Richard (Elk City, OK). His grandchildren: Dawson Wayne Coulter (Greeley, CO), Wylie Travis Coulter (Blue Ash, OH), Peyton Elizabeth Marie West (Kansas City, MO), Nikki Anita Madron (Bixby, OK), Katelyn BreeAnn West (Tulsa, OK), Wade Garrett Beall (Oklahoma City, OK), Sierra Nicole Beall (Tulsa, OK), and Dezaree Lynn Gray (Canute, OK), and seven great-grandchildren.

Dwaine is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Sam West, Rollin and Nannette West and Don and Sue West, their children, and many cousins and friends.
