Edmond, Oklahoma - Carl Kammerzell, 83 year old former Woodward resident, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026 at his daughters and son-in-laws home in Edmond where he resided with them for 6 1/2 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2026 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Daniel Rickman officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Full graveside military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force.

Carl Max Kammerzell was born on November 28, 1942 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Francis Wilson and Maude Molly (Owens) Kammerzell. Carl grew up in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School. He was inducted into the United States Air Force in 1961 and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. Carl earned numerous medals and served his country during the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service to his country, he retired in 1981.

He was united in marriage to Laverne Alice Neal on December 22, 1964 in Wichita Falls, Texas where they made their first home. They were married for 55 years before her death in 2020. Carl always said the reason they were married so long is he always had the last "Yes, Dear". Carl and Laverne moved frequently throughout their married life, because of his career in the military. They lived in New Hampshire, Guam, Louisiana, North Dakota and then moved to Woodward in 1981 after his retirement. Carl worked on B-52's for 20 years in the military and after his retirement he worked in the oilfield delivering oil.

Carl enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, going out on the boat, and spending time at the lake with his sister, Doodle.

He is survived by his daughter, Elisha and her husband, Bruce, who cared for him after the love of his life passed. Also survived by his daughter, Tammy Owen, and son Bill Kammerzell. Grandchildren: Carly Hartzell, Kevin Plowman (Tannie), Alaina Pyle, Larry Plowman, Angela Lang-Murphy, Michael Murphy (Dani), Billy Kammerzell and Bryant Kammerzell, Lucas and Jeremy Crow. He recently spent an amazing time with several of his 10 grandchildren whom he loved very much, and 24 great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Laverne, one brother, Dwight, and sister, Mickey, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

We wish to thank the numerous Hospice staff and hospital staff that cared for him and laughed at all his jokes until the end.
