Wilma North, 81 year old current resident of Moore, Oklahoma, passed from this life Thursday, June 2, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Wilma Ruth North was born on June 20, 1934 in Douglas, Oklahoma the daughter of John Jacob and Ruby Jewell (Cooper) North. Wilma was reared in the Douglas area and attended Douglas schools graduating from Douglas High School. She then attended Phillips University in Enid where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education as well as earning her Masters Degree in Education from Phillips University. Wilma was blessed with four daughters, Debbie; Barbara; Pam; and Tammy. Wilma worked as an elementary school teacher, retiring after 28 years of teaching.
Wilma loved her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was known affectionately as the "Bug Lady", she collected insects and put them in hard plastic displays and took great joy in giving them away not only to her students but to all children.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moore.
Wilma is survived by her daughters, Debbie Nies of Owasso; Barbara Kilkenny and husband Tim of Newcastle; Pam Coleman and husband Terry of Canada; Tammy Miller and husband Steve of Woodward; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; eight brothers and sisters; several other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and one brother; and one grandson, Travis Grogan.
