Sammy J. Hixson Seventy-seven year old Vici resident, , passed from this life on November 24, 2014, in the Woodward Hospital. He was born August 8, 1937, to Samuel Pearl and Nellie Fay (Dearing) Hixson in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Sam accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young boy. When Sam was 5 years of age the family moved to Harmon, and he attended Vici Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1956. During his high school years, he was active in FFA and won many awards for growing crops and showing sheep and pigs. He furthered his education by attending Okmulgee Technical School studying diesel mechanics. Sam proudly served America in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963, gaining the rank of Specialist 5th Class. After he was honorably discharged, he began farming and ranching. Sam married Gladys Elaine Lynes on February 11, 1966, at the First United Methodist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. Four wonderful children were born to this union, Tanda, Rosann, Ladina and Dusty. Sam and Gladys operated a dairy for many years, along with farming and ranching. After retiring, Sam and Gladys moved into Vici. Sam enjoyed fishing, going to rodeos, watching football on TV, hunting dove, quail and turkey, and playing dominoes. He loved his family and thought being a grandpa and great-grandpa was the best thing ever. Sam was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Nellie Hixson and a sister Vonda Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of the home; daughters Tanda Hixson of Norman, OK, Rosann David and husband Michael of Cheyenne, WY, and Ladina Heatwole and husband David of Woodward, OK; son Dusty Hixson and wife Tresha of Bel Aire, KS; brothers Oscar Hixson and wife Mary of Owasso, OK, and Henry Hixson and wife Phyllis of Woodward, OK; fourteen grandchildren; 5 great-grand children; other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be Friday, November 28th, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Vici, OK. Burial will follow at Harmon Cemetery, Harmon, OK. Arrangements made by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici, OK.
