Pauline's Story

Pauline Noble, 95 year old Mooreland resident, died Monday, May 4, 2015 in Mooreland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland with the Reverend Larry Masoner officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Billings Funeral Home in Woodward on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Thursday at the Billings Chapel in Mooreland from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Pauline (Gates) Noble was born October 7, 1919 at her home south of Quinlan, Oklahoma to Vernie and Rosa Lee (Rowald) Gates. She attended school in Quinlan through the 5th grade before the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona from 1929 to 1931 when they returned to their family farm south of Quinlan. She graduated from Quinlan High School in 1939. She attended Northwestern State University in Alva, was drafted to teach in 1942. She continued her education in summer while teaching in the winter for ten years several one room country schools. She later substituted at Curtis and helped with various programs and directed the music program. She had a six member accordion band. In 1943, she was married to William Ely Noble of Cheyenne Valley, Oklahoma while he was home on leave from the United States Army. She continued to teach while he was overseas. When Bud returned they bought a farm south of Quinlan, where they farmed and ranched until moving into Mooreland in 1980. To this union three children were born, Dennis D. Noble, Vernon W. Noble and Melburn “Red” Noble. She was very active in the church at Quinlan teaching a class, working with the youth, UMW, and music program. She later moved her membership to the Mooreland Methodist Church where she continued to work. She is survived by her children, Dennis Noble and wife Martha of Woodward, Vernon Noble and wife Becky of Cibalo, Texas, Red Noble and wife Dottie of Mooreland; grandchildren, Lance Noble and family of Stillwater, Lonnie Noble and family of Mooreland, Lacy Noble Hailly and family of Norman, Krista Noble Spruell and family of Mooreland, Miranda Noble Stidham and family of Mooreland, Matt Noble and family of Mooreland; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie and Rosa Gates, her husband William E. Noble, brother Frank Gates and grandson Darwin Noble. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Cemetery with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
