Melvin Edwards, 74 year old Freedom resident, died Monday, July 11, 2016 in Mooreland. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Melvin Dean Edwards was born on August 24, 1941 in Purdum, Nebraska the son of Garrald Earnest and Beulah May (Hanna) Edwards. Melvin was reared in Grand Island, Nebraska and graduated from Grand Island High School. He married Pat Edwards and to this union two children were born, Robert and Katherine Nicole.
Melvin worked as a pumper for United and for XTO as well as owning the Freedom Hardware Store. Melvin had a strong work ethic and even continued to work up until 2 days before he was diagnosed with his illness.
Melvin loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Robbie of Freedom; one daughter, Nici of Woodward; three grandchildren, Chris, Chris and Brandon; 5 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Chris, Nevaeh, Kaleigh, and Leah; other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Pat, and one sister, Betty Parker.
