Lolabelle's Story

Lolabelle Crusha Merriman of Woodward was born on August 19, 1925 on a farm near Lenora, Oklahoma and passed away on January 7, 2015 at the Grace Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Lolabelle graduated from Camargo High School and went to teach in a one room schoolhouse in Dewey County. After which, life took her to Kansas where she met Charles LeRoy Merriman and they married in Baxter Springs, Kansas. After World War II, the couple settled in Woodward where they raised their six children. Lolabelle pursued many interests in life by being a school teacher, running a daycare and being an avid gardener. She also helped her husband with his home insulation business before earning her Bachelor of Education Degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. She then returned to teaching in the Woodward School System. Lolabelle is survived by 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; Charles and Jenneth Merriman and their children, Joy Radke and Michael Merriman and families, John and Marie Weems and their sons Patrick and Jerry Weems and families; Albert and Donna Merriman and their daughter Kristen Merriman; Becky Vanaki and her sons Charles and Nick Vanaki and families; Ryan, Yvonne (Babe) Geddes, Dennis Dodson and their children, Daniel and Rylee Geddes and families; Vernon and Darlene Merriman and their children Krista Steuart, Kalina Guzman, Molly Smith, Caleb and Ky Merriman and families; one sister, Ruby Horner and husband Ira; other family and friends. Lolabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her brother Vernon Crusha of Liberal, Kansas; and her parents, Albert and Elzora Crusha. Also preceding her were her stepson, Bob Merriman of Joplin, Missouri; her son-in-law, Hossein Vanaki of Tehran, Iran; her grandsons John Merriman and Chisum Geddes and her great granddaughter Emily Geddes.
