Leota's Story

Leota Campbell, 78 year old Fort Supply resident passed from this life on July 22, 2016 in the Harper County Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Roadway Church in Fort Supply with James Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Leota Arlene (Gillenwaters) Campbell was born on December 15, 1937 to James Virgil and Thurma Ione (Stickley) Gillenwaters at her uncle Floyd's home near Fort Supply. Leota spent her childhood on the family farm North of Fort Supply. She attended school in Fort Supply graduating from Fort Supply High School. She then attended Panhandle A & M in Goodwell and received her Bachelors Degree in Education. Leota was united in marriage to Earnest Ray Campbell on August 17, 1957 at Ed Tindell's house in Enid, Oklahoma. Leota then began teaching at Straight Grade School in Straight, Oklahoma for the next 29 years. Leota and Earnest returned to Fort Supply in 1991, and have lived there since.

She enjoyed making jean blankets for her family, cooking, especially Sunday dinner for her family, and bible memorization. Leota looked forward to spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Leota is survived by two sons, Mike Campbell and wife Sherri of Woodward; Mark Campbell and wife Cheryl of rural Laverne; daughter, Michelle Goree and husband Charles of Fort Supply; grandchildren, Justin Campbell and wife Courtney; Chad Campbell and wife Tessa; Shala McIntosh and husband Peyton; Ashley DeVaughn; Jessica Hendrix and husband Nathan; Tiffany Wright; Zachary Wright; Corey Wright; Makayla Wright; great-grandchildren, Lane Campbell; Caden Campbell; Hailey Campbell; Shay Campbell; Ty Campbell; Isaac DeVaughn; Alex DeVaughn; Zoe DeVaughn; Bella Hendrix; Dexter Hendrix; Leo Estes; and Allison Estes; one brother, Jerry Gillenwaters and wife Dorothy of Buffalo; sister-in-law, Donna Gillenwaters of Amarillo, Texas; several other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Earnest; one grandson, Trevor Campbell; three sisters, Vera Price; Betty Gaston; Nina Gillenwaters; and one brother, Bill Gillenwaters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
