K.D. Hawkins, 85 year old resident of Talihina, Oklahoma died Sunday, September 25, 2016 in McAlester. A grave side funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, September 30, 2016 in the Fairview Cemetery North of Putnam, Oklahoma with the Reverend Dennis Adair officiating with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Kelly Dent "K.D." Hawkins was born on August 28, 1931 near Putnam, Oklahoma the son of Guy Larkin and Emma Joyce (Cain) Hawkins. K.D. spent his childhood in the Putnam, Taloga, Seiling area, basically where ever his horse would take him. K.D. served in the United States Air Force During the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955.
K.D. was the last of a dying breed he was a true cowboy. He spent his entire life working and riding, living the cowboy life. He took in outside horses for people, trained horses, and did day work. Besides spending time working with horses, he enjoyed a thick juicy steak and a shot of whiskey or moonshine before bed.
K.D. is survived by three children, Sandee Anne Boyd of Holdenville; Shari Durell Hawkins Rudder and husband Chuck of Alpine, Texas; and Kelly Mantooth and wife Carrie of Denton, Montana; seven grandchildren, Patty Nolen; Daniella Casahuaman; Kristen Yeley; Kaycee Melton; Kara Mantooth; Monica Skinner; Tasha Carrasco; five great-granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; one sister, Annie Kornele of Woodward; several nieces, nephews other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and five sister.
