John Hawkins, 78, formerly of Dewey County, Oklahoma, currently living in the Sasakwa, Oklahoma area, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 in Ada. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in the Fairview Cemetery north of Putnam, Oklahoma with Reverend Shane Rackley officiating. Interment will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. John Cain Hawkins was born in Dewey County, Oklahoma to Guy Larkin and Emma Joyce (Cain) Hawkins. John attended school in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country before being Discharged. He then resided in Los Angeles, California where he began his career as an Ironworker working with Iron Workers Union Local #433. After his retirement, John moved to Utah where he ranched, and showed cutting horses, did team pinning, as well as team roping. He loved the “Cowboy Life”. John returned home to Oklahoma where he continued ranching and working with horses as long as his health permitted. John is survived by one daughter, Jonelle Rutherford of Stanford, Kentucky; four grandchildren, John Keith Rutherford; Miles Rutherford; Keishia Rutherford; Courtney Garcia; four great-grandchildren, Katlin; Skylar; Kylee Jo; and Payton; one brother, Kelly Hawkins; one sister, Annie Kornele; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
