Jimmie's Story

Jimmie Lee Newman, 74 year old Woodward area resident, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at his home in Woodward. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Ed Dowty officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Jimmie Lee Newman was born on August 14, 1941 in Mooreland, Oklahoma to Carl Cecil and Lena Zella (Perrin) Newman. Jim grew up in the Quinlan area and attended Mooreland schools, graduating from Mooreland High School in 1959. Jim was inducted into the United States Army on November 19, 1963. He was a Sharpshooter and honorably served his country until 1968 when he was discharged.

He was united in marriage to Leona Ladd on November 5, 1968 in Woodward, Oklahoma. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Cynthia Sue, Billy Joe, and Kelly Ray. The family moved to Mooreland in 1970 and lived there until 1988 when they moved to California. They moved back to Woodward in 1991 and lived there until 2001, moving to Oklahoma City. After Leona's death in 2006 Jim moved back to Woodward.

Jim worked in the Oilfield all of his life. He loved fishing, hunting, playing pool and being with family.

He is survived by one son, Kelly Newman and wife Wana of El Reno; one daughter Cindy Newman of Sharon; two brothers, Larry Newman and wife Beverly of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Cecil Newman and wife Kim of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; one sister Carlene Krueger and husband Gary; four grandchildren Nikole Bellows and husband Danny of Sharon, Joseph Newman, Joshua Newman of Mustang; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Shelby, Mason, Jacoby, Benjamin; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Billy in 1990, his wife Leona in 2006, and a granddaughter NiRae Newman earlier this year.
