Jim Kornele, 69 year old Weatherford resident, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at his home in Weatherford. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Earl Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Jimmy Lee Kornele was born January 12, 1947 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Earnest Elmer (Dick), Jr. and Georgie Louise (Welty) Kornele. He was reared in Freedom for the first nine years of his life and then the family moved to a farm northeast of Woodward known as the Fike place. Jim remained there until he left home. He worked several ranch jobs and also ran a filling station in Woodward for a few years before going to work for Marathon Oil Company as a pumper in February of 1978. He moved to Fairview and then later was transferred to Elk City, Oklahoma where he lived until he retired after 31 years at Marathon Oil. After retirement, Jim moved to Foss Lake Estates on the north side of Foss Lake. There he enjoyed his beloved sport of fishing in warm weather and wood working in his shop in cold weather. Jim met Carol Curtis in February of 2007. They were united in marriage on July 27, 2016.
Jim loved to hunt and fish but spending time with his family and friends is what brought him the most joy. He especially loved spending time with his precious granddaughter, Anna.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of the home; one son, Dennis Curtis and wife Danica of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter, Becky Tomlinson and husband Kris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his granddaughter, Anna Tomlinson of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Roger Kornele and wife Rita of Woodward, C.R. Kornele and wife Janice of Mooreland; nephews, Brian Kornele and wife Pam, Steve Kornele and wife Heather all of Mooreland, Jared Kornele, Jeromy Webb and wife Kassie all of Woodward; a host of other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Georgie Kornele.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Weatherford Public Schools Children In Need Fund with the funeral home accepting the memorials on behalf of the family.
