Jean Teufel, 82 year old Woodward resident passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016. The family has planned a memorial service for 11:00 am Monday, October, 24, 2016 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue Campus with Reverend Jason Dirks officiating.
Leota Jean Teufel was born on August 24, 1934 in Camargo, Oklahoma the daughter of James Franklin and Beulah Beatrice ( Sumpter) Tuck. Jean was reared in Camargo and graduated from Camargo High School with the class of 1954. After graduation she moved to Woodward and began working at the Polly Anna Café. While working at the Polly Anna she met the love of her life Lionel Leon Teufel. Jean and Leon were united in marriage on January 14, 1961 in Woodward. Jean and Leon made their home in Woodward. The couple was blessed with one daughter Shellie. While her daughter was young Jean was a stay at home mom, taking care of her family. Later she began working as a cook at Highland Park Elementary School. Jean retired from Woodward Public Schools in the late 1990's.
During her retirement Jean and Leon enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and often were accompanied by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Kenny Bowers. They enjoyed several memorable trips camping at some remote destination. Jean also enjoyed watching the Thunder play, and was an avid Elvis fan, anything to do with Elvis and she was in.
Jean also loved her daughter and grandchildren, she treasured every moment spent with them.
She was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
Jean is survived by her husband Leon; one daughter, Shellie Merchant of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Riley Merchant; Audrey Merchant; and Ryder Merchant; two sisters, Betty Bowers of Woodward; Janet Berndt and husband Eddie of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Jerry Tuck; Frankie Tuck and wife Pat all of Woodward; brother-in-law, Larry Teufel of Oklahoma City; close family friend, Vincent Merchant of Oklahoma City; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Tuck; and two brothers-in-law, Kenny Bowers; and Don Teufel.
