Harvey's Story

Harvey H. Eggleston 79 year old Arnett, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on February 3, 2015 at St Mary’s Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma. He was born March 1, 1935 to Harvey Martin and Clara Mae (Northrup) Eggleston at Shattuck, Oklahoma. During childhood he attended Bishop School where he was active in 4-H and an avid basketball player. He also enjoyed working on the family ranch during his youth. One of his favorite past-times during his school years was thinking up pranks to play on other students and watching the entertaining results. After graduation, he attended Panhandle State University where he was on the rodeo team and the baseball team. In 1956 he was inducted into the Army where he served for 2 years. After the Army he came home and worked on several of the area ranches. On July 7, 1962 he married Bettie Karen Curnut and to this union was born Kimberly Karen, Benjamin Orla, and Kenneth Martin. During his life, he helped his parents operate the Texas Service Station and then worked the next 35 years in the oilfield as a lease operator for Texas Oil and Gas until retirement. After retirement he continued to operate the family cattle business until declining health forced him to turn it over to his son. He spent his remaining years enjoying life, especially his children and the light of his life, his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey and his mother, Clara, also two grandsons, James and Justin. He is survived by his children Kim of Odessa, Texas, Ben and wife Shane of Higgins, Texas, and Ken of Higgins, Texas; three grandchildren, Britanee Friese and husband Cole of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bradley Eggleston of Higgins, Texas, and Elizabeth Eggleston of Arnett, Oklahoma; and by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services were held on Saturday February 7, 2015 at 10:30 am at the First United Methodist Church, Higgins, Texas with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery, Arnett, Oklahoma.
