H. C. Guthrie was born on September 9, 1936 on a farm North of Mutual, Oklahoma; he was the son of Joseph Harold and Claudia (Winstead) Guthrie. H. C. attended school in Mutual and graduated from Mutual High School with the class of 1954. He was united in marriage to Phyllis R. Love on July 3, 1960 in the Sharon Baptist Church. H.C. and Phyllis made their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma and several other places due to H.C.'s work. In the mid 1960's the family made their home in the Sharon, Oklahoma area. H. C. and Phyllis were blessed with four children, Kim, Carter, Penny, and Amanda. Because at an early age he wanted to work in road construction, H. C. began working for Broce Construction soon after high school. His career with Broce lasted more than 50 years; throughout his working career H.C. had learned every aspect of the road construction business. The knowledge that he obtained was even called on from time to time after retirement.
H. C. loved his family and he always put his wife, children, and family members needs before his own. He was willing to give freely of his time to help family and friends. He enjoyed the simpler things in life, from watching his cattle graze in a pasture, to sitting on the bank of a farm pond waiting on the fish to bite.
He was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church.
H. C. is survived by his loving wife Phyllis of the home; three daughters, Kim Klick of Edmond, Penny Guthrie of Woodward, Amanda Crabtree and husband Shawn of Woodward; eight grandchildren, Allison Klick, Devry Klick, Kasey Flyingout, Mitchell Guthrie, JoLee Guthrie-Denton, Aspen Crabtree, Denym Crabtree, and Aunyx Crabtree; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dollie Clem of Woodward; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Carter Dean Guthrie; and brother-in-law; Donnie Clem.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Baptist Church or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
