Floyd Kite, 90 year old Woodward resident, died Friday, July 15, 2016 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Kansas.
Floyd Leslie Kite was born on October 29, 1925 in Augusta, Kansas; the son of Myrlin Leslie and Ruth Irene (Holmes) Kite. Floyd spent his childhood in Illinois and Kansas. He graduated from Chase High School in Chase, Kansas with the class of 1939. Floyd was inducted into the United States Navy on December 29, 1943 and was Honorably discharged on April 18, 1946. After returning home to Chase, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Verne LaRue Temple on June 14, 1947. They made their first home in Chase, Kansas. To this union four children were born, Gene, Steve, Cindy, and Beverly. In 1973 Floyd and his family moved to Woodward where he began his career as a Diesel Mechanic. Floyd retired from Lane's Motor Freight after several years of employment.
Floyd was a member of the Woodward Masonic Lodge # 189 where he earned his 32nd Master Mason Degree.
Floyd enjoyed life, he was always one to crack a joke or pull a prank. Most of all he loved his family and friends, he was always there to help and support them when needed.
He is survived by one son, Gene Kite of Melbourne, Florida; daughter, Beverly Iliff and husband Rick of Hobart; four grandchildren, Justin Duncan and wife Jaime whom he refereed to as "Bookkeeper"; Chris Kite and wife Mariah; Steven Kite and wife Kristyn; Sarah Kite; five step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Trey Nester; Aubrey Duncan; and Cameron Kite; and one on the way Kyrah Kite; 13 step great-grandchildren; 14 step great-great-grandchildren; one brother Les Kite and wife Norma of Oklahoma City; extended family Lila Hensel; Mike and Linda Hensel; Joe and Ruth Zirtzman; Manuel Rivera; Elwin Patton; Bruce and Sandra Patton; and so many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verne; one son, Steve; one daughter Cindy LaRue; and step daughter, Darlene Neal.
