David R. Melton, 61 year old Mooreland resident, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Mercy Hosptial in Oklahoma City after a short illness. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Billings Funeral Home in Mooreland on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. David Ralph Melton was born June 8, 1953 in Enid, Oklahoma to Bruce Edward and Carol Joyce (Wilson) Melton. He was the first of seven sons. He attended school for eleven years in Garber, playing sports from little league to high school also playing in the band. The family moved to Mooreland in 1970 and David graduated from Mooreland High School in 1971. He then attended Oklahoma State University. He worked in the oilfield during his summer breaks from college and in 1976, he went to work full time for numerous companies, including Well Tech, Cudd Pressure Control, Rodgers Well Service, and several more. He lived in various towns, Woodward, Chickasha, Ninneka, and Purcell. He moved back to Mooreland to work at the Woodward County Landfill. He continued working at the Landfill until his retirement. He was baptized into the First Christian Church at an early age. David attended many NASCAR races with his brother Bob and for many years that was his favorite pastime. He is survived by his Mother, Carol Melton of the home; brothers: Bob Melton of Mooreland; James and Kristen Melton of Canton; Russell and Joyce Melton of Edmond; Douglas and Chelle Melton of Guymon; Chris and Mary Melton of Stillwater; 12 special nieces and nephews: Curtis of Corn; Jeff Melton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rachelle and Rustin Pierce of Luther; Sam of Spring, Texas; Ryan Gunn of Oklahoma City; Kristen of Oklahoma City; Rustyn of Oklahoma City; Sarah of Conroe, Texas; Jace Melton of Norman; Kennedy Melton of Guymon; Tillie Melton of Canton; Karsten Melton of Stillwater; two great-nephews, Shane of Canton and Bradyn of Corn; two new step great-nieces, Patience and Haley of Sand Springs; cousins, Kenton and Doreen Rutledge of Tavares, Florida; Steven and Janet Melton of Claremore; Toni Melton of Tulsa; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Claude and Tilda Melton; Ralph Wilson; Reva and Lester Rogers, cousin, Paul Melton, father, Bruce and brother John E. Melton.
