Bobby's Story

Bobby Norman, 78 year old longtime Fort Supply resident and current Woodward resident died Sunday, August 6, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Fort Supply United Methodist Church with Reverend John Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Ray Norman was born November 30, 1938 at the Norman Family Farm, five miles west of Fort Supply, Oklahoma in Ellis County. He was the son of Robert Oscar Norman and Georgia Rose (Smith) Norman. He attended Fort Supply School, graduating with the class of 1957. He attended college at Northwestern. Bobby participated in sports and was involved in the FFA where his favorite achievement was having the winning Champion Poland China Pig at the Tulsa State Fair in 1956.

Bobby married Zelda Story on July 23, 1960 in the Cleo Springs Methodist Church. They lived in Fort Supply, Oklahoma and were blessed with two children, Jan and Steve. Bobby and Zelda were married for 57 years. Bobby worked for the Oklahoma Highway Department, Western State Hospital while also farming, raising cattle, and chester white pigs.

He enjoyed hunting coyote, pheasant, and quail, trap shooting, collecting toy tractors, refinishing antique furniture and mowing. He was a true yard warrior. He was a member of the Fort Supply Lions Civic Club. After retirement in 1989, he always went to his two coffee clubs at Steuarts Country Store and T.J. Diner. Bobby attended Mount Olive Church and Fort Supply Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and attending his kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildrens activities and special events.

Bobby is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sisters, Virginia Mae, Ruby Fay, and Frances Irene, brothers-in-law, Glenn Red Keeton, Wes Fleming and nephews, Glen Norman and Lance Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife Zelda of the home; daughter Jan and husband Dale Wanger; son, Steve Norman and wife Dianna; brother John Jay Norman and wife Katy; five grandchildren: Kirby Wanger and wife Melissa, Casey Jo Gemmill and husband Brendon, Cooper Norman, Chandler Norman, Claire Norman; four great-grandchildren, Luke and Lane Wanger, Jace and Cali Mae Gemmill; nephews: Jim, Glen and Jackie Keeton; Brad and Monty Mitchell, Mike Norman, William Toellner; nieces: Donnita Pitzer, Lesta Dewald, Tammie Garrison; many cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fort Supply Methodist Church or the Fort Supply Fire Department or the charity of your choice in honor of Bobby with the funeral home accepting the donations on behalf of the family.
