Alene's Story

Alene Lee, 93 year old former Laverne resident, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Alliance Health of Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Laverne Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Stephen Hale officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Loma Alene (Leatherman) Lee was born on January 12, 1923 in Laverne, Oklahoma to Allie Guy and Hazel Loma (Davis) Leatherman. Alene grew up in Laverne and graduated from Laverne High School. After graduation she attended Northwestern State University in Alva. Alene was united in marriage to Oliver Lee in 1956 and they made their home in Wichita, Kansas. Alene worked for Boeing and built the Superfortress Bomber used in World War II.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Alene enjoyed visiting with friends, playing dominoes, cards and pitch. She loved being with and helping her children and always enjoyed visiting her son Rodney in the Care Facility. She was a devoted mother who always took care of her family. Alene had been living with her son Marcus for the past 12 years.

She is survived by her sons, Marcus Lee, Michael Lee, Rodney Lee; one sister, Barbara Leatherman Wyand; grandchildren, Jamie Lee, Keith Lee, and Lindsay Lee; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oliver, one sister Virginia Leatherman Leist, and her daughter Linda Lee Knowles.
