Walter Ray McLain, a real history maker and world shaker. A long-time resident of the Phoenix/Glendale area, died peacefully August 28th, 2017.
Walter Ray McLain was born June 2, 1930, in Fargo, Oklahoma to Preston Ray McLain and Hazel Lewis (Starbuck) McLain.
Walter graduated from Woodward High School, Woodward, Oklahoma. Walter served in the Navy and graduated from ASU with a bachelors in Education and later NAU with a Master of Arts in Education.
Together Walter and Mary (King) McLain made a family and raised their "Three Musketeers", Ray, Charlie and Richard. They lived many places during the course of their lives serving as teachers in Alaska, South America, New Mexico until finally settling in the Phoenix area.
Walter left all of us with a treasure trove of memories. But most of all he loved his family unconditionally and they adored him. Walter gets his A+ for the way he successfully raised three boys, was a loyal husband and friend to many. Aside from his family, As was a long time member of the Church of the Nazarene. He nourished people around him with love, faith, and music. Walter had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Lauren likes to say "grandpa loved two things most in life...God and baseball,
Walter is survived by his sons Ray, Charlie & Richard of Phoenix/Glendale AZ area, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, sisters Fern Qualls of Oklahoma City, OK, Ruth (Allen) Fields of Levelland, TX, Barbara Cardiff of Vici, OK and brother Kieth (Evelyn) McLain of Fairview, OK. and Deanna (Randall) McLain of Woodward, OK. Walter was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Leland, sisters Marjorie (Alwyn) Cammerer, Willa Mote (Bruce) Gosssett and Juanita (Ron) Butler.
Graveside service/ceremony were Saturday September 2, 2017 at 8:30 AM. at West Rest-haven Cemetery, Glendale Arizona.
