Virgil's Story

Virgil L. Atwell, 87 year old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 in the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Scott Ware officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Virgil Leon Atwell was born on September 2, 1930 in Mutual, Oklahoma to Fred and Vura (Allison) Atwell. Virgil grew up in Vici and attended Vici schools. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corp on February 27, 1952. He served his country honorably and was discharged in 1954. Virgil was united in marriage to Louise Ball in Clayton, New Mexico. Virgil worked at the Ford garage, Northwest Wholesale, Daily Oil Tool, and the farm. His main interest was working on the farm and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie Ogden and husband Jim of Woodward; one grandson Tracy Kimbro and wife Bethany; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Vura Atwell, sisters, Peggy Wood and Wanda Styles. His wife Louise preceded him in death a week ago on October 11, 2017.
