Verta M. Charmasson, 92 year old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2016 in the Woodward Church of Christ with James Bailey officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Verta Marie (Covalt) Charmasson was born on March 2, 1923 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Oscar James and Mary Mae (Benne) Covalt. Verta grew up in Woodward and attended Tangier schools, graduating with the class of 1941. Verta was united in marriage to Kenneth Charmasson on November 11, 1943 in Woodward, Oklahoma. To this union three children were born, Carol Ann, Ron, and Rod. The family made their home in Woodward and continued living there until they moved to the farm in 1955. In 1960, Verta and Kenneth started Charmasson Processing. They worked along side each other for many years. After Kenneth’s death in 2000, Verta continued working until her retirement a few years later. She was a member of the Woodward Church of Christ. Verta lived the farm life and she enjoyed cooking and gardening. She also loved attending bible class and playing pitch with her card ladies. She is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann Baird and husband John; two sons, Ron Charmasson and wife Linda; Rod Charmasson, all of Woodward; four grandchildren, Destry Baird and wife Terri; Dustie Shryock and husband Brad; Chad Charmasson and wife Amy and Cody Charmasson and wife Donna; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Covalt; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth on October 30, 2000, two brothers and four sisters. Memorials may be made to the Woodward Church of Christ with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
