Shirley's Story

Shirley Adams, 63 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, June 1, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Bible Baptist Church. Internment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Jean (Baker) Adams was born June 15, 1953 in Canadian, Texas; the daughter of Evert Ward and Opal Mae (Armantrout) Baker. Shirley's family moved around a lot until she was 11 years old and they settled in Woodward in 1964. She attended Woodward Schools and later went on to receive a Certificate of Mastery at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma.

Shirley was united in marriage to John Bradley Adams on January 23, 1978 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The couple was blessed with three children, J.R. , Cynthia and Stephanie. They made there home in Woodward and remained there to this day. Shirley worked at McDonald's and Corky's Get N Go before she and John opened up Aunt Shirley's Playhouse. She had a great passion for children and loved each and every one of them. The children affectionately called her "Aunt Shirley". Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and she adored her grandchildren.

Shirley was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.

Shirley is survived by her husband John of the home; one son J.R. Adams and wife Crissy; one daughter Cynthia Adams and husband Vic; a sister Beverly Chestnut and husband Corky; Grandchildren Deven Adams, Dylan Pettigrew and Conagher Adams; her Aunt Dee Shepherd; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ward and Opal Baker, daughter Stephanie Jean, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
