Ruth's Story

Ruth Ann Maple, 73 year old Woodward resident, died Friday, November 3, 2017 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Ruth Ann (Ott) Maple was born on February 5, 1944 in McAlester, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Baxley Ott, Sr. and Mary Lou (Anderson) Ott. Ruth grew up in McAlester and attended the McAlester Public schools. She was united in marriage to Ralph Kennard Maple on October 6, 1961 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Woodward and Ruth has lived here since that time. She was blessed with three daughters, Sheila, Anita Lynn, and Julie Ann and one son Randolph Rhodes.

She worked at the Rib Ranch for years and we all remember her at McDonalds as the drive thru lady. She worked at McDonalds until retiring a few years ago.

Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Woodward and recently was a member of the Thousand Hills Ranch Church. She was baptized as a small child then again on June 4, 1989 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward by Reverend Russell Duck. She enjoyed taking care of her grandson Kyson and great-grandson Trayce and she loved being with her family. She loved her dog Sophie that she called Baby Girl and her monthly hair appointments with her dear friend Georjeana Vo. Ruth cherished the visits from her family especially from her granddaughters, Jourdan and Jerika. Ruth raised her grandson Richard Anthony as her own son and their bond was inseparable.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Halley and husband Kevin of Woodward, Anita Lynn Maple of Woodward; four brothers, Cliford Ott and wife Mary, Baxley Ott, Jr. and wife Becky, Daniel Ott, David Ott and wife Cheryl; one sister, Rita Packard; grandchildren, Richard Anthony Maple of Mooreland, Preston Herbst of Enid, Courtney Herbst of Woodward, Jourdan Stahlman and spouse Talon of Woodward, Jerika Paige Halley of Woodward, Kyson Wayne Halley of Woodward, Michelle Caddell of Tulsa, Nicholas White and spouse Courtney of Tulsa, Niesha Smith and spouse Martin of Oklahoma City, Whitney Long and spouse Trey of Woodward, Erica Long and spouse Trevor of Woodward; 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild Rachell Ann, one daughter Julie Ann Maple White, her husband Ralph Maple, one son, Randolph Rhodes, and husband Larry Cardiff.
