Rowland's Story

Rowland Turner Quisenberry, Jr., 73, was born April 5, 1942 in Woodward, Oklahoma, the first son of Turner Quisenberry and Mary Day Quisenberry and passed away on January 12, 2016 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He graduated from Woodward High School and enjoyed going back for reunions most every year. He attended Oklahoma State University and served his Country in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. Celebration of his life will be at Strode Funeral Home on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Rowland and Judy Baker were married after his discharge from the Army and have lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma since 1968, where they were very active in their children’s many school activities and Rowland remained interested in Stillwater athletic events long after his children were “grown and gone”. But, if truth be told, his passion was anything having to do with the OSU Cowboys! He was a member of the Posse Club, attended most OSU athletic events, and would travel to the Cowboys’ games, near or far. His wardrobe was primarily orange and black. Rowland was very proud of his heritage---his parents and grandparents---but equally proud of Judy and their children, most especially his granddaughter, Jessie. He retired in 2002 from Southwestern Bell after 37 years of service. He had many friends, both in Stillwater and Woodward. For years, he met for breakfast with his buddies (you know who you are) where they would solve the major problems of the world and hash and re-hash the latest OSU trials and triumphs. He loved living in Stillwater and was an active volunteer in the community. Rowland is survived by his wife, Judy his son Terry and wife Beth, and his daughter, Lisa and her daughter, Jessica. Due to the devotion and dedication of his family, Rowland was able to be at home for the last several months of his life which pleased him greatly. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Quisenberry of Edmond, his brothers Jim (Beverly) of Plano, Texas, and John (Audria) of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Schroeder (Herb) of Oklahoma City, and Rosemary Stammer of Owasso as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his grandparents Dr. and Mrs. J.L. Day and Reverend and Mrs. J.F. Quisenberry , and his son, James. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Laubauch, Zack Ramsey, John Crabb, Charles Lynch, Cass Christian, Bill Harrison, Scott Stone and Jason Stone. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to the charity of their choice. Condolences may be emailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
