Ronnie Fitz, 66 year old Woodward resident died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in the Faith United Methodist Church with Reverend Charlie Baumann officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ronnie Ray Fitz was born on June 5, 1950 in the Woodward Memorial Hospital to the proud parents William Jacob "Bill" and Margaret Anna (Phillippi) Fitz. Ronnie grew up in Woodward. He graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1968. Ronnie then attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, where he studied Physical Education. Ronnie returned to Woodward and worked with his family for many years at Akard's Florist, he also owned and operated Ronnie's Plants and Things for many years. He later worked for Tri State Electric and Winntech.
Ronnie's true love was race horses. He spent countless hours researching lineage of studs and mares in order to find that one foal that he thought would be next big thing at the track. He took great care to bring his horses along slow so that they could reach there full potential. He enjoyed nothing more than just being with his horses and watching them graze in the pasture.
He also was true fisherman, if it could be caught Ronnie was the man to get it done. Ronnie loved to take his nephews and nieces fishing and pass his love of fishing on to the next generation. Ronnie also enjoyed basketball and baseball, hardly ever missing a Thunder game, and was always there cheering on his "Cubbies".
Ronnie was a member of the Faith Untied Methodist Church.
Ronnie is survived by three sisters, Kay Steele of Woodward; Judy Steele and husband Charles of Yukon; Janet Fitz of Woodward; nephews, Mark Steele and wife Jorita; Mike Steele and wife Dawn; niece, Robin Hammer; great-nephews, Cameron; Jordan; Griffen; Anthony; Braydon; Bryan; and Michael; great-nieces; Natalie; Lauren Kay; Kim; Tricia; Rachel; Kaitlyn; Cassidy; Leeann; four great-great-nephews; one great-great-niece; aunts; uncles; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Margaret Fitz; nieces, Charmaine Maupin; Charlotte Sheffield; as well as both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodward Mainstreet Centennial Handicapped Playground with the funeral home accepting the donations.
