Roger's Story

Roger Melott, 76 year old Buffalo resident, died Monday, August 15, 2016 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 in the First Baptist Church of Woodward with the Reverend Jerry Hodges and the Reverend Guy McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family being present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Roger Kenneth Melott was born on June 20, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska to Frank and Mary (Townsend) Melott. Roger grew up in Shawnee and attended Bethel Public Schools. He was united in marriage to Barbara June Sanders and they were blessed with four children, Keith, Roger, Joe and Rogina. Roger served his country in the Army National Guard and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1963.

He worked as a Pipeline Welder and a Pipeline Inspector for many years. Roger was united in marriage to Donna Nelson on December 24, 1989. They made their home in Mooreland before moving to Buffalo.

He attended the First Baptist Church in Buffalo and the First Baptist Church of Woodward. Roger loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, socializing with friends and raising cattle.

He is survived by his wife Donna Melott of the home; three sons Keith Melott and wife Sherry of Woodward, Roger A. Melott of Watonga, Joe Melott and wife Tammy of Watonga; one daughter Rogina Lopez and husband Juan of Shawnee; one brother Tom Melott and wife Pat of Woodward; sisters, Mary Ann Powell of Shawnee, Myrtle Shunk and husband Don of Choctaw, Lucille Bishop and husband Lonnie of Gainesville, Texas, Lois Williams and husband Bill of Lafayette, Louisiana, Frankie Sue Jones and husband Don of Wichita, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Melott.
