Randall's Story

Randall T Martin was born December 20th, 1935 to Alta (Hereford), Russell Martin near Walsh, Colorado on the family farm and left this life for his eternal home on February 5th, 2016 in Woodward, Oklahoma. He grew up on a ranch in Springfield, Colorado were he and his siblings helped their parents work the ranch. As a young man Randall enjoyed tinkering and inventing. He like to boast that he invented the first ever ski mobile. In 1953 on a blind date he met Mary Perdue. Two years later they married on July 2, 1955 and went on to enjoy 57 years of marriage. In 1959 Randall joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. On February 24th, 1961 the couple’s first child Douglas Tent was born on the base. In 1967 Randall and Mary made the decision that Randall would attend college to obtain a degree in Physical Therapy. The family moved to Alva, Oklahoma. During their time there they had a second child, Trena Gaye on July 10th, 1967. After Randall completed his schooling at Oklahoma University the family moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma. Randall worked at Newman Memorial Hospital for 41 years. During that time he also traveled to neighboring community Nursing Homes and Home Health patients. Randall’s “touch” helped many. His favorite time each year rolled around at the end of July and first of August. He would vacation in his beloved Rocky Mountains near Fairplay, Colorado. Camp time included Fairplay Burro Days, long ATV rides, and knife throwing. The family attended First Baptist Church and Randall enjoyed Tuesday Morning Men’s Bible Study. Randall enjoyed helping the community with Shattuck’s Heritage Fest. He would take his place on the wagon dressed in his black hat and vest sharing the history of Shattuck Oklahoma. Randall is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Cindy Martin of Mulvane, Kansas. His daughter and son-in-law Trena and Greg Higgins of Texhoma, Oklahoma.
