Phillip Raymond Kenny was born on November 6, 1936 in Gibbon, Oklahoma during the dirty thirties to Thomas Joseph Kenny and Loretta Nell Kenny. He was baptized in Manchester, Oklahoma on November 8, 1936. In 1941, he moved to Medford, Oklahoma with his mother, sister, Joyce Marie and four brothers Paul Stephan, Larry Eugene, Thomas Joseph and Donnie Lee where his step-father Robert Byron "Jack" Paden found and cared for them like an angel sent from heaven.

He graduated from Medford High School in 1954 and joined the U. S. Navy in January of 1955 where he served in Florida, California and Okinawa and was honorably discharged in December of 1958. Phillip then enrolled at Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma in January of 1959 and graduated in January of 1963 with a Bachelors degree in Education.

On August 27, 1960, Phillip was united in marriage to Karen Ruth Balk in Woodward, Oklahoma. His first son Phillip Raymond Jr. was born in Alva, Oklahoma. He then began his teaching career in Topeka, Kansas, where he earned his Masters degree at Washburn University and his second son, Jeffery Bernard was born. His career path as a Principal took the family to La Junta, Colorado where his third son, Timothy Byron was born and then Dodge City, Kansas and Kingman, Kansas, where he earned his Specialist degree at Wichita State University; and finally back to Woodward Elementary Schools where he was a Principal, affectionately known as "Mr. K", since 1979.

Phillip was a member of St Peter Catholic Church in Woodward. In 2002, he was called to become a Deacon and was ordained on November 3, 2006. He was instrumental in the daily ministries of the church where he performed baptisms, weddings and funerals, visited the sick and dying and provided administrative and spiritual support (basic training and boot camp) for the parish priests.

Family trips to Colorado were always at the top of Phillip's list. He enjoyed searching for gold, hunting for treasures, looking for Indian artifacts and stopping at every historical marker he came across but most especially spending time with his family and helping anyone and everyone enjoy life. One of his greatest joys was being "Papa" to his grandkids. His face lit up every time he saw them and they all loved him dearly. He always enjoyed attending and cheering his kids and grandkids at their sporting events. Pap's contagious laugh and perfect smile were endearing to all.

Phillip is survived by his wife Karen of the home; three sons, Phillip and wife Denise, Jeffery and wife Lori, Timothy and wife Melissa; his brother Thomas and wife Judy; eight grandchildren, Jeffery, Brandon, Cody, Mikayla, Kadee, Nakoby, Ashtyn and Evyn; two great-grandchildren; Preston and Lady Caroline; other relatives and many friends.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Marie and three brothers, Paul Stephan, Larry Eugene and Donnie Lee.

Phillip was a hard working, generous, and faithful man. He dearly loved his family, particularly his devoted wife, Karen, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Eternal rest grant unto Phillip, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Sanctuary Fund at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2020 Oklahoma Ave., Woodward, Oklahoma 73801 on behalf of the family.
