Peggy McCurdy, 73 year old Woodward, Oklahoma resident died Monday, November 28, 2016 at her home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 1, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 pm Thursday, December 1, 2016 in the Elmore City Cemetery, Elmore, Oklahoma

Peggy June McCurdy, a long time resident of Woodward, Oklahoma passed away on November 28, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones. Peggy was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on July 29, 1943 to James William McClain and Vera Beatrice Rodgers McClain. She was raised in Fox Oklahoma where she was a member of the First Pentecostal Church and attended Fox Public Schools through her sophomore year. Between her sophomore and junior years of high school her family moved to Elmore City. It was there at a train caboose restaurant where she was formally introduced to a local boy, Robert Leslie McCurdy. On May 15, 1960, after numerous snow cone dates, she married Robert at the First Baptist Church in Elmore City. They made their first residence in Elmore City. After Peggy graduated from Elmore City high school May of 1961 they would move to various places following employment opportunities, Oklahoma City, Prat Kansas, Rush Springs, Watonga and finally settling in Woodward in the mid 1970's. Peggy and Robert were blessed with two sons, Robert Michael and James Leslie.

Peggy completed LaJeans Beauty School in Duncan Oklahoma. She was a homemaker by heart, but always looking to learn new trades. She worked for Fruit of the Loom, Trego's Leather Line, Kauk 66, The Cottonwood Tree, Wal-Mart, and on the waffle assembly line at the Pet Milk Company in Chickasha where she set a record of making 59 waffles in one minute.
Throughout her life Peggy was active in various organizations; the Rodeo Riding Club in Rush Springs, Midday Ambucs, and Bowling Leagues. Peggy and a few of her close friends teamed up to start Hospice in Woodward. Once the Woodward Hospice program grew beyond their knowledge and abilities they gave complete control of the program to Woodward Regional Hospital.

Peggy enjoyed cooking, crafts of all kinds, shopping, bowling, playing cards, traveling to Colorado to hunt and fish, telling stories of her many adventures and most of all anything that involved spending time with her family, especially watching the kids ballgames even if that meant traveling for hours all over Gods beautiful creation. Her family gave her the most enjoyment in her life.

She precedes in death by her parents, James William "Bill" and Vera McClain; one brother, James Wesley McClain; one grandson, Christopher Allen McCurdy; and one great grandson, Damron Price.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert McCurdy, son Robert "Mike" McCurdy and wife Stacie of Elk City, son James McCurdy of Woodward. Sister Kathy Aldridge and husband Brenny of Empire; sister Rita Wolfe and husband Kent of Liberal, Kansas. Granddaughter Kimberly Gibson and husband Cory of Shattuck, Grandson Scotty McCurdy and wife Danni of Woodward, grandson Ross McCurdy and wife Sarah of Harrison Michigan. Seven great grandchildren Dustin, Dallas, Damien, Jesse, McKynlee, Ryland, and Ava. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
