Mike's Story

Mike Jackson, 33 year old former Woodward resident, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Frontline Church in Oklahoma City.. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 20917 at the Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John Michael Jackson was born on December 22, 1983 in Woodward, Oklahoma to John Richard and Debora Ann (Taylor) Jackson. Mike grew up in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 2003. From grade school through middle school, he was involved in all sports from being on a bowling team which placed 2nd in the State of Oklahoma to playing goalie for N.W. Soccer where he was the most valuable player. He was also involved in baseball, basketball, and football. In high school he quit sports and picked up the bass guitar to be in a Christian band called "Under the Son."

In the 9th grade, Mike was saved and at that time he devoted his life to the Lord. After graduation, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and attended Nazarene Bible College to study English and Theology. In 2004, Mike moved back to Oklahoma City and started playing with a band called Courier. After sometime he traveled to Maryland to help start another band. After a few months, he decided Oklahoma was his home and moved back to Oklahoma City. At this time he went back to school at the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha and studied English.

Mike worked at various jobs including, Schlumberger, Valve Sales Inc., J and B Graphics, the York Company, and the Downtown Glass Company. During this time, he learned the art of being a welder and fabricator. He opened his own shop called Jackson Fabrication and was known through out Oklahoma City as one of the best in his field. In his spare time, he liked building and riding bikes whether it was a bicycle or a motorcycle. He also liked indoor soccer and every chance he was out fishing at his favorite places.

Mike loved hanging out with all of his friends and loved them all dearly. He also loved his dog Danzig so much he gave him up to give him a better home with a big yard and kids to play with him.

He is having a celebration in Heaven with his father, John R. Jackson, his sister Paula Jo Anderson, his grandparents, John L. Jackson, Billie Witt and Jimmy Don Witt, along with several aunts and cousins.

Survivors who will miss him are his mother, Debbie Goree and husband James, step-sister, Destiny Goree and Justin Gorton; step-brother, Byron Goree and wife Melissa; grandmother, Paula L. Jackson and Colin McClaren; two special nephews, Elijah Anderson and Stefan Anderson; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and some very special friends.
