Leroy F. Hammans, 75 year old farmer, resident of Woodward, Oklahoma died June 19, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday July 1, 2017 in the Lighthouse Church, West Hwy 15, Gage, Oklahoma

Leroy Franklin Hammans was born February 28, 1942 to Joy James and Velma Bertalee (Bull) Hammans in Woodward, Oklahoma. He grew up and attended school in Woodward. He attended high school in Sharon, Oklahoma.

As a young man, Leroy proudly served his country in the Oklahoma National Guard.

Leroy was married to Lois Githens in 1965. They had one daughter, Triecie Marie. He raised her mostly as a single parent.

He later married Ylsa De La Cruz and they had three sons, Elias and twin boys, Aaron and Andrew. Through this union Leroy gained three more children, Carlos, Felix, and Eileen. One of Leroy's great interests, especially when his boys were young was to take them fishing. Many of their family vacations were fishing trips. He felt there was nothing more peaceful than sitting on the fish bank.

Leroy worked for many years in the oil field. He was respected by his fellow workers, and was known as a hard worker. After retiring from the oil field, he operated a lawn care business with the help of his wife and twins. They took great pride in their services and had many pleased clients. His last employment was with Hanor Farms where he took special interest and genuinely cared for the pigs.

Leroy was an avid animal lover. His mother once remarked that as a young boy he loved all the strays and could catch and tame the wildest cats. He had a farmer's heart and loved farm life. He got great satisfaction just being at home on his little spread that he called The Hammarosa. He often referred to his cows as his friends. Even when he was in the hospital, one of his main concerns was for his cattle.

Leroy was somewhat a prankster and loved a good joke. He was well known for his good natured teasing and many funny phone calls.

Leroy loved God and he loved his family. He was fond of the family get-togethers. He was especially devoted to his grandkids. The little ones were a great joy to him.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Triecie Hammans of Crestview, Florida; Elias Hammans and wife Brandy of Noble, Oklahoma; Aaron Hammans and wife Kayla of Woodward; Andrew Hammans of Woodward; Carlos De La Cruz; Felix De La Cruz; and Eileen De La Cruz.
