Leona Smith, 72 Year old Mooreland resident, died Monday, November 3, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward with the Reverend Beau Hague officiating. Interment will be in the Mooreland Cemetery. Leona Marie (Parsons) Smith was born February 6, 1942 in Woodward County, Oklahoma to Alton Jack and Ruby Lee (Walker) Parsons. Leona attended school in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1960. A few weeks after graduation Leona married Harold Smith of Mooreland and they made their first home in Woodward. They moved to Mooreland within the year and still live in Mooreland, having only moved three times. Leona started working at Frost Department Store in Woodward, then worked at Southwestern Bell as an operator, then proof reader and cashier at the Security State Bank in Mooreland. At this time, Harold and Leona bought a service station, Smitty’s Champlain. After four years, they bought the Conoco station across the street, Smitty’s Conoco. This location also had a self-service car wash and they managed the Mistletoe Express for the Mooreland area. At the station, they also had Mooreland Propane, with Harold being the driver. After thirty years of running a complete service station and being the bookkeeper, they sold out. Harold went to work for Mooreland Co-Op and continued driving a propane truck. Leona went to High Plains Vo-Tech in Woodward and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), at the age of 48. Leona worked at the Woodward Regional Hospital and the Golden Age Nursing Home in Mooreland until her retirement at the age of 62. Harold worked until he retired in 2008. Harold and Leona liked to go to the river and fish. The family has campouts at the river several times a year. They especially enjoyed their grandchildren when they participated in sports and were looking forward to Lane’s last Friday Night Lights and anticipating his college games. Leona is survived by her husband Harold “Smitty” Smith of the home; three children, Greg Smith and wife Kim; Sheila Reazin and husband Lonnie; Jeff Smith and wife Candace, all of Mooreland; Grandchildren, Talor Reazin of Oklahoma City, Dalton Reazin and his steady Taylor Johnson of Stillwater, Lane Reazin of Mooreland, Corbin Whitlaw of Edmond, Kelton Smith, Jacy Iliff and Paizlee Smith all of Mooreland; one brother, Cecil Parsons and wife Jerri of Salado, Texas; two sisters-in-law Patsy Clark and husband J. P. of Niotaze, Kansas; Betty Stewart of Yukon; one brother-in-law Charles “Chick” Smith and wife Donna of Mooreland; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Doug Parsons. Memorials may be made to the 1000 Hills Ranch Church with the Billings Funeral Home accepting the donations.
