Lavina Ann Akers Lavina Ann Akers, 74 year old resident of Woodward, OK, passed from this life on October 1, 2018 in Woodward, OK. Lavina was born to Caddo Marvin and Eva Lena Turney in Carnegie, OK. She attended Fort Cobb schools graduating as Valedictorian in the class of 1962. After graduation she moved to Woodward, OK.
On August 22, 1966, Lavina married Irving Eugene Akers in Woodward and in 1967 they made their home in Shattuck, OK, where they lived until 2012. They then moved to Woodward. To this union Regina and Tereisa were born and a special adopted son Robert joined their family after. Lavina worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. She enjoyed cooking, antiquing, traveling in their R.V., reading, and playing horseshoes. Throughout her life she was a member of many organizations which included Girl Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, National Rural Letter Carrier Association, and United Methodist Women.
Lavina is preceded in death by her parents Caddo and Eva Turney, two brothers Bob and Jerry Turney, and half sister Thelma Little.
She was survived by her husband Gene Akers of the home; two daughters Regina Lyons and husband Ken of Conroe, TX and Tereisa England and husband Lance of Woodward, OK; adopted son Robert Turney of Ramah, NM; brother Marvin Turney and wife Paula of Hawaii; sister Letha Wilson and husband Ed of Fort Cobb, OK; eight grandchildren Ariane, Corian, Tasia England; Caddo and Keena Turney; and Mickey Lyons, Rex Lyons and Heather Warner, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church ~ UMW in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859.
Services were held Friday October 5, 2018 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, Woodward, OK with burial following at 3:30 pm at the Fort Cobb Cemetery, Fort Cobb, OK. Condolences may be made to the family at Shaw Funeral Home ~ Shattuck
