Kenneth W. White, 78 year old Woodward resident and Retired Major in the United States Army, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at
11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Lincoln Campus with the Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
Kenneth Wayne White was born December 9, 1938 in Sunflower, Mississippi to Ray Bascom and Irene (Dunn) White. Kenneth grew up in Turrell, Arkansas and attended Turrell schools, graduating from Turrell High School in 1956. Kenneth received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida.
Kenneth was inducted into the United States Army in 1958. He served his country honorably and received numerous commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with five Campaign stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, two overseas Service Stars, and the Bronze Star Medal. He was also a Expert Marksman in Rifle. Kenneth retired from the United States Army in 1978 with the rank of Major.
He was united in marriage to Burnice Mary Procknaw on January 23, 1959 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. They made their first home in Las Cruces, New Mexico because Kenneth was stationed at the White Sands Missile Range. They were blessed with two children, Terry Alan and Paula Annette. The family lived in numerous different cities because of Kenneth's time in the military. After his retirement from the military, Kenneth was an Agency Manager with Farm Bureau Insurance. They moved to Woodward in 2013 to be near their daughter Paula and family.
Kenneth was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Woodward and had served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Raeford, North Carolina. He was also a member of the Masons, the Kiwanis and the VFW. He loved spending time with his family and friends, playing games and making homemade ice cream.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Burnice Mary White of Woodward; one son, Terry White and wife Cindy of Sanford, North Carolina; one daughter, Paula Biffle and husband David of Woodward; one brother, Ray White, Jr. And wife Susan of Gainesville, Georgia; one sister, Linda Ford and husband Alan "Butch" of Pickwick, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Justin Biffle of Carthage, North Carolina, Jason Biffle and wife Tiffany of Loveland, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Isabella Biffle and Carson and Ryder Hogan; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Aloma Maxwell.
Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, India Fund with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
