June Thornton, 95 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, April 5, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 10. 2015 in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie View Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. June (Mitchell) Blakley Thornton, was born August 13, 1919 , on a little farm about four miles southeast of Woodward, Oklahoma. Her parents were Walter Elmer and Viola Violetta (White) Mitchell. At the age of 4 her father bought a farm two mile further southeast of Woodward, where June was to spend most of the rest of her life. It was in 1938 when she and her husband Kenneth, whom she married on November 13, 1935 in Arnett, Oklahoma, bought the place for their own, until the death of Kenneth on June 24, 1973. To this union three sons were born, Malcolm Leroy; Kenneth Frank; and Ray Oland. June was married to Ralph Franklin Thornton on December 6, 1975 in the First United Methodist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. June joined the Methodist Church September 27, 1942 in a little country church at the corner of 48th and Oklahoma, the pastor was Eugene M. Autrim. June was a 50 plus year member of the Woodward Queen Ester Chapter # 117 Order of Eastern Star. June worked for many years for First United Methodist Church as a care giver to the hospital, nursing homes, and home bound church members. She and Ralph served Meals on Wheels for many years. June is survived by three sons, Malcolm L. Blakley and wife Deliliah of Woodward; Kenneth F. Blakley and wife Lois of Stockton, CA; Ray O. Blakley of Woodward; sixteen grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; one brother Elmer Mitchell and wife Nadine of Moore; several nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Kenneth M. Blakley; and Ralph L. Thornton; her parents; two brothers, Stanley and Orville Mitchell; two sister, Vivian Schacht; and Veda Peterson.
