June's Story

June J. Devine, 92 year old Woodward businesswoman, died Monday, June 22, 2015 in Woodward. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 in St. Peter Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Arledge and the Reverend Vincent Raminedu as Celebrants. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, June 25 2015 at St Peter Catholic Church. June Jennee (Purcell) Devine was born on August 7, 1922 in Reydon, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of John Bert and Kitty O. (Baker) Purcell. June was a farm girl and it was her job to turn the eggs in the incubator. She also milked cows and helped her mother with the chickens and turkeys. June attended Reydon schools. After graduation, she attended Junior College. June worked for the telephone company. On August 23, 1943, June was married to Gene Devine. The young couple had four children, Mary Catherine Martha (Kitty) Devine, Michael John (Mike), Patrick (Pat) and Kevin. They had adopted Kitty and Mike and fourteen years later had Pat and Kevin. Gene and June were married for 51 years. “A lot of blessings and a lot of water under the bridge”. June continued working for the telephone company while Gene was in service. While he was in service, they lived in Dayton, Ohio, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky. After service Gene went into business with his Dad at Devine’s. During the oil boom, they moved to the present location at 2121 Oklahoma. Gene preceded her in death November 12, 1994 and June continued to run Devine’s. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and was very active in the church. She loved her church and attended Mass faithfully. She was a member of the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Renew Catholics Returning Home, Ministry of Praise. She was also a member of the As You Like It Club, the Red Hat Society and Woodward Ladies Golf Association. June is survived by two sons, Pat Devine and wife Stacey; Kevin Devine and Melissa Conine, all of Woodward; Grandchildren, Chris Devine and wife Sarah, Dillon Devine and wife Alyssa; Andy Devine and wife Toni; Beth Sorenson and husband Brian; Whitney Devine, Kristen Herring, Amy Hayes and husband Dean; Megan Jo Devine, Tera Clark and husband Geret; Tayler Martinez; Thomas Harmon and wife Mariah; Dustin Harmon, Kevin Cozens; fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kitty Auslam; son Mike; grandson, Justin Herring, granddaughter, Jennifer Petty, four sisters, Atrel Hooper, Berta Estes, Adell Simpson, June Swopes; one brother J.
