Jerry's Story

Text size

Our dear husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa Jerry Lynn Ladd went peacefully to his final resting place on Wednesday, Sept 13, 2017, at the age of 84 years and 9 months. He was the 5th of 6 children born to Jess Daniel and Myrle May (Burr) Ladd on Dec 14, 1932 in the Cestos.
He attended the Richmond school from 1st to 12th grade graduating with the class of 1950. He loved farming from a very young age and it stayed with him to the end. He drove the school bus and coached a baseball team for Richmond for a few years.
On June 8, 1952 Jerry married Joan Cunningham. Jerry enjoyed quail hunting with neighbors and a good bird dog. He and Joan ran a Grade C dairy in the early days. Jerry used to say he married Joan because she could milk cows. He spent many days hunting coyotes with others and their dogs.
In 1961 at age 29, Jerry started his custom harvest business and continued for 33 years. He cut in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and Montana through the years and employed 70 different people. He harvested wheat, corn, barley, sunflowers, milo and beans. He depended on Joan to cook and wash for all the hands. Connie, Jay and Ricky drove wheat trucks, combines and tractors to help wherever needed. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer award for recognition of Exceptional Progress in Agriculture and Contribution to the Community from the Vici Chamber of Commerce.
Jerry accepted the Lord on Dec 14, 1966 and was a faithful servant till the end. He was very generous and would always help others during a death or illness with farming their ground or cutting their wheat.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Myrle Ladd, brother Burton Ladd, and sisters Lucille Hildebrand, Ima Jean Button, and Juanita Moss.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan of the home, and three children Connie Felder of Woodward, OK; Jay and wife Rhonda of Mutual, OK; Ricky and wife Carla of Vici, OK. 10 Grandchildren; 11 (soon to be 12) Great Grandchildren; brother-in-law and special friend, Gerald Cunningham of Vici, OK and sister-in-law, Alecia Wemmer and husband Bob of Colorado Springs, CO.
We will forever love and miss you Dad and the way you loved us all.
